About Us

The Braithwaite Foundation

The Braithwaite Foundation, formerly called Reach for the Stars Foundation, is a non-profit 501-C3 corporation specifically designed to assist adolescents especially uninsured lower socio-economic teens -male and female- to gain access to healthcare employing prevention and early intervention before they get into a crisis situation. Founded in North Miami Beach in 2002, the Braithwaite Foundation has been serving the community of North Miami Beach for over 20 years. We successfully got approval from the IRS on Sept 20th, 2021 to change the name of the Reach for the Stars Foundation, a 501-C-3 non profit, to Braithwaite Foundation.

Our Founder

Dr. Sylvester Braithwaite is founder of Braithwaite Foundation, as well as founder and medical director of Women & Teens Healthcare (WAT). He has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for over 35 years in Canada, Barbados and the United States. He is an author, educator, professional speaker and philanthropist. He is one of those doctors who goes beyond their oath, viewing medicine not as a profession, but instead as a calling. He sees himself as an ordinary doctor who offers himself to extraordinary situations, and desires to inspire others to follow him on this remarkable journey. As Dr. Houk often says, “To give is to live, and a foundation is love in action. It is the things we hold most dear that we will lose someday. The only thing you ever keep is what you give away.”

Sylvester Braithwaite, M.D.

Dr. Braithwaite, co-founder of BayView Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados, is also the founder/advisor of over 15 other foundations. He notes, “This work makes me feel useful by making a small contribution toward inspiring children and youth to reach their dreams or the stars. We truly fulfill our lifelong dreams and passions by giving our time, energy and money toward worthwhile projects that will make this world a better place to live.” We simply "love what we’re doing and doing what we love.” Our purpose is to serve others, and we believe that work is love made visible. He wrote the book Teen Spirit and serves as the CEO of Braithwaite Foundation. Braithwaite Foundation is aimed at improving the lives of and safe-guarding our children and youth.
